There is something soothing and calming about shooting still life and in particular flowers. Something that is the total opposite of the hectic, frantic, adrenaline rush of shooting street photography.

I wasn’t feeling well a few weeks back. Couldn’t really get myself up to go out onto the streets. So I decided to take the nice portrait lens that I had with me on loan, the Olympus 45mm F1.2 PRO, to take some photos in the garden. We recently added a new flowering plant to the garden, and that was the impetus to get me to shoot some flowers and plants, as well as to get me out my sick bed and into some sunlight.

Shooting wide open at f/1.2 with this lens is amazing. The BOKEH is so smooth wide open. It is also super sharp at f/1.2. It is a perfect portrait lens and it has been reviewed as such by almost everyone that has used it. I didn’t get to shoot any proper portraits with it during my time with it though, but these flower shots are as close as i’ll get to testing the capabilities of this lens out for now.

Still life photography isn’t really what I would normally do but I did enjoy the process of photographing these flowers and editing them after. I might experiment more with flowers in the future but for now I hope you like these flowers and plants as much as i enjoyed photographing them :)
